Heyoooo!

Niki, our President & CEO, mentioned the 5/10 rule in the previous Niki’s Notes. It really stuck with me… then, I heard about how the friendliest species tend to thrive. Think about dogs and other pets – they’re friendly and thriving! Perhaps that means we could be the same. Friendly and thriving. 🙂

Now, onto the digital marketing portion of our program! 📺

  • Have you met Grok, X’s new AI? Elon Musk claims that Grok will give a more accurate sense of truth because it’s sourcing data from X. (My thought is how many Twitter posts are 100% truthful?) Because it’s trained on Twitter/X posts, that also means that Grok will give you the classic Twitter/X sarcasm in responses. We’ll see what Grok has in store for us. To access Grok, you’ll need to be an X Premium subscriber, which is $16/month FYI.

  • Google revealed its 20 most profitable search queries for the week of Sept. 22, 2018 as an exhibit for its antitrust trial. Here’s a breakdown for you:
    • 3 were unrelated unbranded queries (cheap flights, online colleges, and free credit report)
    • 5 were unbranded variations of auto insurance queries
    • 12 were for very recognizable branded company name/product queries (including 3 for iPhone models)

You can see the list but let this serve as a reminder that brand protection and visibility remain very important paid search strategies.

  • How long does it take you to get from gathering data to delivering actionable insights? While the majority of the 600 senior marketers surveyed by GfK said they get insights in a reasonably “good time,” only 26% said they get insights in “real time.” But wait, buried at the bottom of the story in MarketingCharts is a summary of other survey insights including this tidbit on AI:
“Close to half (45%) of marketers surveyed are already using artificial intelligence (AI), while 4 in 10 are familiar with, or using, machine learning (ML) models. More than one-third (36%) report using ChatGPT.”
We wonder how this will change with the pending launch of Google SGE and other AI conversational chatbots like Bard.
  • Lead Gen ads… on Amazon? Crazy! Amazon’s non-endemic ads grant non-Amazon sellers (i.e., lead gen advertisers) the opportunity to target Amazon’s audience. The ad channel currently supports travel, automotive, local services, restaurants, and education.
  • LinkedIn will be hitting 1 billion users this month! To celebrate, they’ve got new AI tools that can read and write to help Premium subscribers draft comments, messages, and more.

Wishing you a week full of awesome – happy Wednesday!
