While 2020 brought more than its share of turmoil, stress, and anger, throughout the year there was a sound, sometimes barely perceptible, underneath it all, a thump, thump, thump that became stronger and more persistent, more steady and insistent, as the year rolled on. Do you hear it?

It sounds like this: hope, hope, hope, hope, hope, hope…

And as the year winds down and the vaccines roll out, and we come together as a nation, weary and scarred, yet stronger nonetheless, I salute you, all of you, who worked together to get us through:

  • The front-line healthcare workers, there are no words for your fortitude and resilience and my gratitude.
  • Our educators, morphing your roles ensure your students keep expanding their minds and their horizons.
  • Parents with young children: I don’t know how you are doing it and I commend you for everything you are doing to help your children adapt and thrive.
  • All the people in those tough jobs interacting with a weary, cranky public. Hats off to all you retail workers, hospitality teams, customer service reps. Those smiles and heart felt “stay healthy” messages meant a lot to me all through this wicked mess of a year.
  • And to all the rest of you who have found humor, shared compassion, reached deep, deep down to find ways big and small to help the next person, you all warm my heart, you really, really do.

Owlthena/DBE did our part throughout the year, donating to a wide range of not-for-profit organizations doing their part to make the world a better place despite the challenges that made it extra hard for them this year. Here’s a list of the charitable organizations we donated to and featured in our Do Good Spotlight this year:

We’ll continue the traditional into 2021, and we’re not done yet for 2020. This week:

Do Good Spotlight: Passage Theatre

Located smack in the heart of downtown Trenton, this little theater does an AMAZING job of staging the most thought-provoking productions, themed this year with connection and caring. Season after season they deliver on their mission: creating and producing socially relevant new plays and arts programming that deeply resonate with and reflect their community. Through professional productions, educational programs, and community engagement, they present diverse perspectives and new voices that inspire audiences and invigorate the art of live theatre. If you want to support the arts, this little theater is a worthy recipient.

Our What’s Hot Wednesday for Business Leaders e-briefing will be back on January 6, 2021. From my heart to yours, thank you for making 2020 a little better than it would have been without you. Here’s to a MUCH better 2021 for you and everyone you hold dear!
